This 15.3 mile section of the Appalachian Trail in Pennsylvania bringss northbound hikers into Port Clinton. The main features of this section of the AT are the views from Auburn Lookout and the tons of rocks you'll find along the trail. This is why hikers call this Rocksylvania.
There is one shelter on a side trail along this stretch of trail. The Eagles Nest Shelter was built in 1994, sleeps eight with a privy located nearby. The shelter is located on a 0.3 mile blue blazed side trail.
This section of trail begins as the Appalachian Trail crosses PA 183 (heading northbound) and within 50 feet pass the Rentschler Marker. Dr H.F. Rentschler led the work parties in 1926 that built the AT between the Lehigh and Susquehanna Rivers. At 0.4 miles leave the woods road and turn right, following the white blazes.
At 0.5 miles cross a State Game Lands Road. At 5.1 miles reach the junction of the blue blazed Sand Spring Trail. The usually reliable Sand Spring is located 0.15 miles away. At 5.6 miles cross a State Game Lands Road. At 5.8 miles reach the blue blazed trail that leads 0.3 miles to the Eagles Nest Shelter and then another 0.1 miles to a view.

Eagles Nest Shelter
At 7.7 miles cross an old mountain road. At 8.4 miles the AT turns left and at 8.75 mile the trail makes a sharp right turn. At 9.3 miles cross State Game Lands Road. At 11.2 miles cross State Game Lands Road diagonally. At 11.4 miles cross blue blazed Marshalls Path. At 12.0 miles reach Auburn Lookout.
At 13.7 miles begin the steep descent toward Port Clinton. At 14.6 reach the railroad bridge over the Schuylkill River and enter Port Clinton. At 14.7 miles turn right and follow Broad Street. At 14.8 miles turn right on Broad Street and soon enter woods and follow along Schuylkill River. At 15.3 miles the trail reaches below the PA 61 bridge and the end of this section.
