This 1.2 mile section of the Finger Lakes Trail lies within the Slide Mountain Wilderness section of Catskill Park.  This short section is the final stretch of the Finger Lakes Trail that leads to its eastern terminus at the junction of the Long Path.  This stretch of the Finger Lakes Trail is featured on map M33 from the FLTC.

For thru hikers reaching this last section means a long 13.8 mile road walk from leaving Willowemoc Wild Forest at Wild Meadow Road.  The road walk includes passing through the small hamlet of Claryville, which has a post office and a general store.  The Claryville General Store has a Finger Lakes Trail Register as well as a restaurant, deli, pizza parlor, groceries, sporting goods as well as other things.  There is also a small motel here.

From the trailhead, the Finger Lakes Trail follows the yellow discs of the Phoenicia-East Branch Trail.  There is a register at the trailhead.  This last part of the FLT is a gentle climb following an old logging road, crossing a stream on a bridge after one mile and reaching the junction of the Long Path and the Peekamoose-Table Trail (blue discs) shortly after.

You are near Slide Mountain and by turning left (straight) you can follow the Long Path to the Catskills largest mountain (another 4 miles hike to the summit).  Turning right you can actually take the Long Path to the Appalachian Trail or to New York City.

Located in this area is the Frost Valley YMCA Camp, located on County Route 47 as well as the Strauss Center of Frost Valley YMCA which is located on Denning Road.

Directions from Syracuse:  This section of the Finger Lakes Trail is over 160 miles away from Syracuse and is a 3 hour trip.  I-81 south to NY 17 East.  NY 17 East for 72 miles.  Turn left on Colley Road (CR 85).  In 7 miles turn right on Hunter Road.  In five miles turn left on Claryville Road/County Route 19.  Follow this road into Claryville.  Turn right on Denning Road (still on County Route 19).  Enter Ulster County and follow Denning Road to its end and the trailhead.
