The information below is for the Good Luck Lake Short Path, which is the quickest and most direct route to Good Luck Lake from the marked small pull off on NY 10.  There is another trail that leads out from the pull off that most hikers take toward Good Luck Mountain Cliffs.  This trail, found on the right after crossing NY 10, heads to Dry Lake and Dexter Lake.

The Short Path to Good Luck Lake is somewhat difficult to find from the pull off, however once you find the path its well defined and easy to follow, even though it is an unmarked trail.  The trail is to the left after crossing NY 10 and is to the south from the trail to Dry Lake/Dexter Lake.

The Short Path begins as a slight ascent after crossing the gutter from the side of NY 10.  There is no register as the trail almost immediately passes by many huge blow downs that have been removed so not to impede travel by hikers.  Looking at these huge logs may make you wonder how all these large trees fell almost at the same time.

At 0.2 miles the trail levels off and if look around, you may notice some very large moss covered stumps.  The well worn path will soon to begin to descend toward Good Luck Lake.  The lake will come into view through the trees as the trail turns in a westerly direction to follow the north shore of the lake at 0.4 miles.  Campsites begin to pop up along the trail.

Side trails on the left lead a short distance to the shore of Good Luck Lake.  You can choose where to end your hike or explore the lake further along the path.  You can continue on to Good Luck Mountain Cliffs or do a loop hike back to the pull off is another option.

Below are a few pictures, a video and a map of this popular hike.  Other short hikes in this area include Broomstick Lake, Nine Corner Lake, Jockeybush Lake and Kane Mountain.  Also check out a day hike to Stewart Lake and Indian Lake.

Directions:  From Piseco take NY 10 about 11.6 miles south from the junction of NY 8.  From Caroga Lake take NY 10 north 10.6 miles from the junction of NY 29A in Pine Lake.  The GPS coordinates are N43 15.357 W74 32.299 for those who have a GPS devise.
