The Lehigh Valley Trail system located south of Rochester has over 21 miles of trails for easy hiking or biking.  The main Lehigh Valley Trail (LVT)travels 15.6 miles from Genesee Valley Greenway in the west to Lehigh Crossing Park in the east.  The trail follows the old railroad bed of the Lehigh Valley Railroad.  The railroad was built in 1891 and was active until the tracks were sold for scrap in 1974.  This popular hiking/biking trail has a solid surface of recycled asphalt shavings.

The trail has numerous parking areas, making it simple to pick a section of trail to explore. If your unsure of a section to explore, then let us suggest the 1.6 mile section from East River Road to the junction of the Genesee Valley Greenway. This stretch features the bridge over the Genesee River (see panorama above) and two picnic tables at your turn around point at the GVG junction.  The total round trip will be 3.2 miles.

There are mileage markers every half mile along the trail, with mileage counted west to east starting from the junction of the Genesee Valley Greenway.  Access to the start of the trail is from West River Road.  There is a small parking area just south of the Monroe/Livingston County line.  The GPS coordinates are N42 58.984 W77 44.591 for the parking area.  The LVT extension travels 0.5 miles to the GVG/LVT junction just west of the Genesee River.  There are a couple of picnic tables located here.

There is no parking available here.
