This 7.6 mile section of the Link Trail features Muller Hill State Forest and Maripossa State Forest. This is the last section of the Link Trail before it reaches its southern terminus at the junction of the 550+ mile Finger Lakes Trail. The trail crosses a small East Branch Tioughnioga Creek, but should see the power of the floods from 2011-2012.

This section of the Link Trail begins off NY 80 just east of Sheds. There is very limited shoulder parking here. The GPS coordinates to help find the trail is N42 48.403 W75 47.501. The trail begins running parallel to NY 80 on private Property before turning right and ascending up the hill.  The trail reaches a newly cleared area and turns right following an old woods road. You're following yellow blazes of the Link Trail. The trail reaches a trail register at 0.7 miles.

The trail ascends to its highest point on the continuous trail at 2022 feet at 1.2 miles. The trail turns left at 1.7 miles and follows a section along a property boundary before finally entering Muller Hill State Forest at 2.0 miles. The trail continues to ascend in the state forest before reaching a spur trail at 2.6 miles that leads to Carpenter Road (0.6 mile away to the west).  From here the trail turns left and begins to descend.

The trail descends toward the abandoned section of Chapman Road and crosses Tioughnioga Creek. Chapman Road received major flood damage from storms of 2011-2012. You may need to navigate through the eroded stretch of land. The trail turns left at the old road, crosses the creek and then turns right back into the woods. The trail now climbs out of the valley up Muller Hill.

The trail reaches dirt Muller Hill Road at 3.7 miles, crosses the road and follows seasonal dirt Wood Rd (aka Bundy Rd).  There is some parking along the side of Muller Hill Road near the trail crossing. The GPS coordinates of the trail crossing is N42 46.338 W75 47.817. The trail continues to follow the abandoned section of Wood Road until it comes out of the state forest and back onto a section of Wood Road open to vehicles. There is some parking available here. The GPS coordinates are N42 45.228 W75 48.118.

Looking back towards NY 80 along the Link Trail

The trail follows Wood Road to Crumb Hill Road, where it turns left following the paved road for 0.1 mile before turning right off the road, into the woods and enters Maripossa State Forest. The trail now winds until reaching the junction of the white blazed Finger Lakes Trail at 7.2 miles of hiking in this section. Just prior to the junction of the FLT the Link Trail leaves Madison County and enters Chenango County (no signs).

When you reach the white blazed FLT, turning left will take you to Bucks Brook State Forest and eventually to the Catskills, The Long Path and if you wanted to, the Appalachian Trail.  Turning right will take you to Cuyler Hill State Forest, the junction of the North Country Trail, to Pennsylvania and eventually if you wanted to, all the way to North Dakota. You have reached the southern terminus of the Link Trail.

There is parking available 0.2 miles west of the Link Trail southern terminus, off the Finger Lakes Trail on Bamberry Road. There is parking along the shoulder of the road and the GPS coordinates of the trail crossing is N42 43.521 W75 48.497. You'll find information about the Finger Lakes Trail in Maripossa State Forest at FLT-Maripossa State Forest.
