North Country Trail in Central New York
|

The North Country Trail section within Central New York runs from Watkins Glen to Forestport. Forestport is the gateway to the Adirondacks. The North Country Trail (NCT) shares the path with the Finger Lakes Trail (FLT) up until Cuyler Hill State Forest and the trail blazes are WHITE.
The NCT blazes are BLUE beginning north of Cuyler Hill State Forest. In Tioughnioga WMA the NCT shares the path with the yellow blazed Link Trail. You may see both blue and yellow blazes from here to the junction with the Old Erie Canal Trail in Canastota.
New sections of the NCT within central New York are still being created. From Canastota to Rome, the NCT follows the Old Erie Canal. As you approach Rome, the North Country Trail passes historical Erie Canal Village. In Rome, the trail passes through Fort Stanwix National Monument. North of Rome the NCT follows the old Black River Canal up to Forestport, NY (with sections still being built).
