Hiking in Oneida County
New York State Parks
Delta Lake State Park is located on a peninsula that extends into Delta Reservoir. The terrain in the park is wooded and generally flat. The park is open year round and visitors can enjoy the day in one of many picnic areas, or on one of the many hiking or nature trails. The future North Country Trail may cross Delta Lake State Park.
There are 101 tent, trailer or RV camping sites and there is a sandy beach with swimming in the summer. For visitors during the winter there are cross-country ski trails. A favorite picnic spot is in the Sunset Bluff Picnic Area. This park is popular for residents of the Rome-Utica area. Lake Delta was created when the state built a dam in 1912 and flooded some 3,000 acres, destroying the village of Delta. The project required the removal of 295 buildings, including 70 homes, and the relocation of two cemeteries.
Check out the NY State Parks website for more information on this state park. Also check their great Delta Lake Park Trail Map.
