In 1999, Helen L. McNitt State Park in Cazenovia was created from a generous gift of 133 acres of prime land, including about 1300 feet of shoreline along Cazenovia Lake.  In 2008 a parking area was built off East Lake Road along with a site to launch canoes, kayaks and small portable rowboats.  This small parking area also has a port a potty available.

Plans to build another parking area to access the upper woodland area of the property were put on hold by NY State as the state says funding is not available.  This includes plans to build a hiking trail loop of one mile so the public can enjoy this special property as Helen McNitt had hoped.

There are no signs to let visitors know that they have arrived at this state park and it is easy to drive right by the property.  The parking area is about 0.3 miles north of Chard Road along East Lake Road on the west side of the road (lakeside).  It is a gravel road that looks like a driveway.  You may notice a few green NY State Park signs in the area.  GPS coordinates are N42 58.267 W75 52.635

Hopefully the state will find the funding needed to complete this state park as it's already been over ten years since the land was donated.  We have a few pictures plus a map below of this state park.
