There are a number of Owl’s Head Mountains in the Adirondacks. This one is off NY 73 between the eastern end of the Cascade Lakes and the town of Keene about 3.2 miles north of Keene. The turn off NY 73 is on Owl’s Head Road, before you get to Cascade Lake. The views are spectacular.

Follow the gravel road 0.2 miles to a T intersection and then turn left and park in any available spot.  There is only parking for a few cars. The trail leaves the road across from the left corner of intersection. It is a great trail for those looking for great views with little effort because even though it is steep in places, you will arrive at lookouts all along the way.  So you can take breaks at each of the lookouts.  The whole ascent is 476 feet in 0.5 miles of moderate hiking.

Directions: From the intersection of NY 73 and NY 9N in the hamlet of Keene, drive north on NY 73 for 3.2 miles to Owls Head Rd, a dirt road on the left. Follow the road for 0.2 miles and turn left. The trail begins on the right just after the turn. If you’re driving south from Lake Placid, Owls Head Lane will be on the right, 8.2 miles past Adirondak Loj Road (where there is a field with a breathtaking view of the High Peaks).  The GPS coordinates for the small parking area is N44 14.863 W73 49.837 for those who have a GPS device in your vehicle.
