The Spectacle Pond Trail is located along Adirondack Road on the western boundary of the Pharaoh Lake Wilderness. The hike features a scenic view at the pond with Pharaoh Mountain in the distance. The pond is stocked with trout and is a popular fishing as well as a camping destination. This is another wonderful walk in the woods to a scenic pond.

The well used trail is easy to follow as the wide trail is an old woods road. The trail follows Spectacle Brook for most of the distance to the pond, even crossing the brook a few times. The trail is marked with yellow DEC markers. There is an overall elevation gain of about 360 feet for this entire 1.7 mile hike to a campsite on Spectacle Pond. The hike starts by climbing and then crossing Spectacle Brook in about 500 feet.

You will soon cross the brook again. At 0.5 miles you reach where the brook splits. The trail crosses Shanty Bottom Brook and there is a herd path on the left that travels about 0.6 miles to Harrison Marsh. This is considered a bushwhack to Harrison Marsh. The path follows the west side of Shanty Bottom Brook for 0.4 miles, before crossing the brook. Soon you'll reach the the marsh.

Back on the Spectacle Pond Trail, the trail is climbing gently uphill. At 1.1 miles you'll see the pond with Pharaoh Mountain in the distance. The trail reaches the outlet of the pond at 1.2 miles, which is crossed over a bridge. The trail now heads to higher ground as it follows the southern shore of Spectacle Pond. There is a campsite just past the outlet.

The trail drops down to the shore of the pond, ending at another campsite 1.7 miles from Adirondack Road. Look below for directions, pictures and a map of this great hike.

Directions:  The trailhead is located along Adirondack Road, 2.7 miles south of Alder Meadow Road. Take I-87 to EXIT 28. Turn right on US 9 South and in a short distance turn left on Alder Meadow Road, then right on Adirondack Road. The start of the trail is located at a sharp curve, exactly one mile south of the Gull Pond trailhead. There is ample parking available along the wide shoulder along the road.
