Adirondack High Peaks
High Peaks Wilderness
Table Top Mountain has three summits with its southern peak as its highest at 4427 feet, making this mountain the nineteenth highest in the Adirondacks. It has no marked trail that leads to the main summit, however there are at least two herd paths that go to the summit plus a newer trail that was created by the ADK 46ers. This new trail begins off the Van Hoevenberg Trail about 0.75 miles from the Phelps Trail junction.
A large summit plateau greets you with the other two summits visible to the northeast, a good view of Phelps and a great view of Marcy. The most popular route is to start at the ADK Loj and take the Van Hoevenberg Trail. It is a five mile hike one way with an elevation gain of 2600+ feet.
This is not as popular as other summit hikes and you could be the only person on this summit, however the Van Hoevenberg Trail is the main trail to Mount Marcy. You will most likely see many hikers on this trail, especially on the weekends. Mount Marcy is only a little more than three miles from the Table Top Mountain turn off. Most hikers to Table Top are attempting to become ADK 46ers.
