Tioga County is located in south central New York state on the border with Pennsylvania.  The county seat is located in Owego.  The highest point in the county is located on private property at an elevation of 1994 feet.  The current population as of the 2010 census is 51,125. Most of the state forests that are in Tioga County are located in the northeastern corner of the county.  The most popular of the state forests in this county are Jenksville State Forest and Oakley Corners State Forest.  Both of these state forest have extensive trail systems and many recreational opportunities.

A small section of the Finger Lakes Trail / North Country National Scenic Trail passes through the county briefly as the trail travels through Robinson Hollow State Forest. The Kimmie Lean To is located just off the trail in Robinson Hollow State Forest.
