We have been adding pages to our website to include an early and future look at the North Country National Scenic Trail in Adirondack Park. Although the trail is still in its planning stages within the park, there are some “sections” of the trail that can be hiked now since the New York DEC plan includes using existing trails where possible. We used the DEC plan to help create this exciting look at the NCT in the Adirondacks. There are currently no NCT blazes, signs or markings within the park (that we know of).
We have split up the trail within Adirondack Park by each of the different forest preserve areas the trail will be crossing. Some of these areas are some of the most remote areas in all of Adirondack Park. The Plan proposes a route for the North Country National Scenic Trail that intersects nine different sections of the Adirondack Park Forest Preserve:
* Black River Wild Forest
* West Canada Lake Wilderness
* Moose River Plains Wild Forest
* Jessup River Wild Forest
* Siamese Ponds Wilderness
* Hudson Gorge Primitive Area
* Vanderwhacker Mountain Wild Forest
* Hoffman Notch Wilderness
* Hammond Pond Wild Forest
The eastern terminus of the North Country National Scenic Trail will be Crown Point State Historic Site on Lake Champlain. Earlier in the week we had a blog entry and video of what will be the first off road section of the trail “across the blue line” in Black River Wild Forest along the Stone Dam Trail.
Look for more blog posts and videos next week as we plan to do more sections of the future North Country National Scenic Trail in the Adirondacks.
