Adirondack High Peaks High Peaks Wilderness Blake Peak
|
Another original 46er whose elevation was adjusted after later USGS surveys. Now listed at 3960 feet, the peak still ranks 45th and is still a required climb for the ADK 46er club. There is a maintained trail to the summit. No views at the summit make this a popular hike only for 46ers.
Blake Peak is located along the Colvin Range in the High Peaks Wilderness and is 1.4 miles away from the summit of Mount Colvin (another 46er). This is also the normal route to this summit but be careful as it is tricky to find the summit since it is quite overgrown. From Saint Huberts this is nearly a seven mile hike to both Colvin and Blake (14 miles round trip). Some throw in Dial and Nippletop to create a tough 18+ mile round trip hike to all four of these 46ers.
We have also been asked to mention that dogs are absolutely PROHIBITED on AMR land. This is not a new rule, but one that has been enforced for over 100 years. Don't plan on taking your dog on this hike.
Another route approaches from Elk Lake over a very steep, unrewarding climb of Pinnacle and then an equally uninspiring walk along a ridge to the summit of Blake.
Blake Peak is definitely one summit only reserved for 46ers....
