Beaver Creek State Forest
NOTES: This Beaver Creek State Forest circuit travels the wooded and meadow outskirts of Brookfield Swamp creating a 7.8 mile loop. There is an overall elevation gain of nearly 700 feet for this loop hike. This is part of the famous Brookfield Trail system used for horseback riding, snowmobiles and yes, hiking. This hike is one of many featured in the guide book "Hiking New York, 3rd Edition". Look below for pictures, a video, maps and a description of this popular hike.
Special Attractions: Hemlock-hardwood forest and confer plantation, spring and summer wildflowers, wildlife sightings.
Directions: From Morrisville, NY --> US 20 EAST past NY 12 JCT, then right on County Route 6A, left on Bliven Road, then a right on Fairground Road. Take a sharp left on a forest road (steep road) to a parking area on the left. Start here. If you do not want to start your hike at this point, there are two better parking areas on Fairgrounds Rd, including one just north of the Madison County Fairgrounds.

From the parking area, start on Trail 41 and begin steep descent.

Cross Fairground Road. Parking. Now on Trail 39.

Trail veers left and becomes Trail 38.
3.3 1428 feet
Trail crosses Beaver Creek Road. Begin to ascend.
3.5 1488 feet
Trail reaches a forest access road. Turn right and follow road.
4.0 1514 feet
Reach Beaver Creek Road. Turn right and follow road.
4.25 1474 feet
Veer left off road, now on Trail 60.
5.6 1398 feet
Cross Beaver Creek on bridge. Views north of the swamp.
5.7 1398 feet
Cross Fairground Road. Parking. Now on Trail 44.
6.0 1420 feet
Cross Fairground Road. Now on Trail 43.
7.4 1463 feet
Cross Fairground Road and follow steep road up to parking area.
7.8 1670 feet
Reach parking area and end of this loop hike.
