Camping in the Adirondacks Brown Tract Pond
|

This rustic campground is off the main tourist paths, located a short distance from NY 28 near the small hamlet of Raquette Lake along the dirt Uncas Road. The campground is located on the eastern shore of the 146 acre Brown Tract Pond in Moose River Plains Wild Forest and was opened to the public in 1958.
There are 90 campsites available with flush toilets, a nice picnic area along the shore of the pond with a sandy beach. There are NO showers at the campground. You are truly in the remote Adirondack wilderness at this campground or at least have the feel for it.
There is one hiking trail that starts within the campground, the Shallow Lake Trail has a small parking area near campsite 68 and travels around the north shore of the pond crossing Sucker Brook Bay Trail, entering Pigeon Lake Wilderness on the way toward Shallow Lake. The hike is 1.4 miles one way to Shallow Lake.
Other popular hikes near the campground include West Mountain, Black Bear Mountain and Ferd's Bog. You'll find more info on this campground at the NY DEC Website as well as a Campground Map.
