Kaaterskill Falls is one of the most popular waterfalls in New York State and is easily the most popular waterfall destination in the Catskills. The 260 foot double-tiered waterfall is located between Haines Falls and Palenville in Greene County along NY 23A. The water drops 175 feet from the top, past a natural amphitheater created by the overhang of the upper falls cap rock. The lower falls then drop another 85 feet, spraying mist against the sides of rock.

Kaaterskill Falls is the highest two-tiered waterfall in New York state. It is a very popular spot - especially during the warmer Summer months.  From the parking area, walk down to the bridge. Be cautious walking along the shoulder of the road.  Near the bridge is Bastion Falls. Continue on the yellow marked trail for about 0.5 miles to the base of Kaatterskill Falls. The water drops 260 feet in two stages. The official trail ends here. Turn around and head back.

Be sure to stay on the trail. Nearly every year hikers are seriously injured and even killed at this waterfall. Most wander off the trail, slip on the wet rocks and fall. Enjoy the scenic beauty of this spectacular waterfall from the safety of the marked trail. Look below for info on how to find the falls, pictures, a video and a couple of maps of this popular hiking destination in the Catskills.

Trailhead: Take NY 23A West through the village of Pallenville. About 3 miles from the village you will get to a sharp hair-pin turn (Here you will cross a bridge and see some nice falls on the right). The parking area is on the left just up the road. The GPS coordinates are N42 11.370 W74 04.448 of the parking area. Park in the parking area and not along the side of the road. There are NO PARKING signs all along NY 23A and when people park their cars along the road, it makes the area dangerous for other cars and hikers. Plus it's just plain LAZY.
