This 4.2 mile section of the North Country Trail runs from the corner of NY 240 and Fancy Tract Road which is northeast of Ellicottville to NY 242, west of Boyce Hill State Forest. This section of the trail is partly on private property as well as property donated to the FLTC and travels along the side of Canada Hill. This stretch of the NCT coincides with the white blazed Finger Lakes Trail.

This moderate section of hiking has an overall elevation gain of over 700 feet. Please respect landowners rights and stay on the trail. There is a camping area in this section of the trail, just 0.25 miles off the main trail along the blue blazed Cobb Trail. The trail between NY 242 and Fancy Tract Road is closed for hunting from mid Nov to Mid Dec. Please stay off the trail during this time.  See below for more information.

Look below for a map and trail description of this section of the trail. Part of this section of the North Country Trail is also part of the Conservation Trail.  The Conservation Trail leaves the NCT during this section to continue its journey to Niagara Falls and Canada to meet the Bruce Trail.

0.7	1746 ft	Trail turns left off Fancy Tract Road into private property.  Follow white blazes.  Note: Trail from here to the Conservation Trail junction is closed for hunting Oct. 1 – Dec. 25. Use Fancy Tract Rd. to bypass.
1.05	1702 ft	Trail veers right.
1.3	1762 ft	Junction with the orange blazed Conservation Trail that travels to Niagara Falls. Trail register.
1.5	1807 ft	Trail begins main ascent around Canada Hill.
1.95	2095 ft	Highest point along this section of the trail.  Begin to descend.
2.55	1794 ft	Turn right on South Canada Hill Road. Shoulder Parking. GPS N42 20.907 W78 35.066
2.8	1706 ft	Continue straight at intersection.  Now on Fancy Tract Road.
3.0	1749 ft	Left off road into PRIVATE PROPERTY.  NOTE:  This section of the trail to NY 242 is CLOSED during hunting from Mid Nov - Mid Dec.  Please stay off trail during this time.
3.6	1900 ft	Cross blue blazed Cobb Trail.  Left takes you 0.25 mile to camping area.  Continue straight.
3.8	1881 ft	Junction on your left of blue blazed Cobb Trail.  Begin descending.
4.1	1675 ft	Junction ahead of blue blazed Cobb Trail just prior to bridge over Devereaux Brook.  Soon cross active railroad tracks.
4.2	1690 ft	Reach NY 242.  Small Parking area. GPS N42 20.268 W78 33.296 End of this section. The NCT turns left and follows NY 242.  For a continuation see Boyce Hill State Forest.
