The main feature of this 5.3 mile section of the North Country Trail is the site of a former Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) unit known as Camp #3. The camp stood from 1933 until 1946. During World War II, it was used as a German Prisoner-of-War Camp.

This section starts as the trail crosses PA 321 near the Chappel Fork.  The trail climbs from 1400 feet to over 2100 feet in under two miles.  The trail descends, following Root Run for a bit before reaching PA 321 just a quarter mile south of the entrance to Red Bridge Recreational Area.  Red Bridge has 65 campsites, each containing a picnic table, fire ring, and tent pad. Hot water showers, vault and flush toilets are available.

The North Country Trail crosses Kinzua Creek along Red Bridge and this section ends at the parking area off PA 321 at the base of Longhouse Hill.
