The North Shore Trail travels 0.4 miles from North Point Road to the northern shores of Raquette Lake. This is a marked snowmobile trail that gets very little hiking traffic for the ease to reach the lake. The trail ends at great spot for a picnic at the lake and those who like to bushwhack could explore the shores further going either way along the lake.

There is a yellow gate near the start of the trail. You are following red snowmobile markers on this wide trail. The trail is so wide that there is really no problem following it. No one should get lost hiking this easy trail. We suggest following the lake to the right for a further adventure. Look below for directions, a trail map and video of this great short hike in the Sargent Ponds Wild Forest of the Adirondacks.

Directions: Take NY 30 & NY28N out of Blue Mountain Lake toward Long Lake. North of South Pond, at a sharp curve in the road, turn left on North Point Road. Follow this winding road, past the popular Buttermilk Falls trailhead and Forked Lake State Campground, for 6.2 miles (from NY 30) past the Upper Sargent Pond Trail trailhead. There is parking along the shoulder. The trailhead for the Lower Sargent Pond Trail is 1.5 miles further west along the road. There is shoulder parking here as well. The GPS coordinates for the Upper Sargent Pond Trail trailhead is N43 52.953 W74 32.847 and N43 52.997 W74 34.622 for the Lower Sargent Pond trailhead for those who have a GPS devise in their vehicle.

The unmarked trailhead for the North Shore Trail is another 2.5 miles further along North Point Road or 10.2 miles from NY 30. There is limited shoulder parking along the side of the road. The GPS coordinates are N43 52.719 W74 37.372 for those who have a GPS devise.
