Hiking in Adirondack Park East-Central Adirondacks Hammond Pond Wild Forest Overlook of Lincoln Pond
|
A view of Lincoln Pond from an overlook is the feature of this hike located in Hammond Pond Wild Forest in the East Central Adirondacks. The hike features an unmarked trail and a bit of a bushwhack to an unnamed hill with open ledges just west of I-87 that starts from near the Lincoln Pond State Campground. There are views of Lincoln Pond from one ledge as well as views of Bald Peak, Rocky Peak Ridge and Giant Mountain from another ledge.
The unmarked trail is an abandoned woods road found 0.2 miles north of Lincoln Pond State Campground along County Route 7. The GPS coordinates are N44 08.594 W73 34.794 for those who have a GPS devise. The old road is directly across the street from a campground road that leads to two outer campsites. There is parking at the boat launch or at the campground.
This is a bushwhack and should only be attempted by those with good map - compass skills. There are culverts that will allow you to cross under I-87. Look below for a map to assist in planning your hike.
