Hiking in Schuyler County
New York State Lands
The 937 acre Texas Hollow State Forest is located about 6 miles east of Watkins Glen, near the hamlet of Bennettsburg in the towns of Hector and Catharine in Schuyler County.
There is one pond (see panorama above) constructed with a man-made dike, with a concrete control structures to discharge water. This pond can be accessed from Texas Hollow Rd with a short walk down an access road that also leads to the white blazed North Country Trail, which travels through the Texas Hollow State Forest. The Finger Lakes Trail coincides with the North Country Trail in this state forest. Additionally, Texas Hollow State Forest has several naturally occurring ponds and bogs. A 0.7 mile blue blazed side trail called the Texas Hollow Loop Trail is also located in the forest. The loop starts and ends off the FLT/NCT, creating a pleasant short loop hike.
From Watkins Glen take NY 79 east. Turn right onto Texas Hollow Rd.
