Hiking in Cortland County Tuller Hill State Forest Woodchuck Hollow Figure 8 Loop

This 3.6 mile hike in Tuller Hill State Forest utilizes part of an old truck trail, the Finger Lakes Trail / North Country Trail, a blue blazed access trail and a seasonal dirt road to create a figure eight loop. This hike features Snyder Hill, the scenic Woodchuck Hollow and Woodchuck Hollow lean-to.

Directions: From Cortland, I-81 south to Exit 10. Turn left on US 11 south. Turn right on NY 392 West then right on Carson Rd. Go around sharp left turn bend and just past the Snyder Hill Rd junction, on your left is a seasonal dirt road called Cortland 9 Road. The GPS coordinates of the junction is N42 30.727 W76 06.122. Turn left on Cortland 9 road and follow to the end and park here. The GPS coordinates are N42 31.550 W76 06.928 of the end of the road.

0.4 1960 ft Highest point along trail in Tuller Hill State Forest (Snyder Hill). Descend.
1.3 1753 ft Cross seasonal dirt Cortland 9 Road.
1.4 1678 ft Jct with blue blazed Neal Brook Trail that leads to Pipeline road. Reach Woodchuck Hollow. Continue on white blazed FLT/NCT.
1.7 1615 ft Blue blazed access trail on left leads to Cortland 9 Road
2.0 1532 ft Woodchuck Hollow Lean-To
2.6 1628 ft Turn left on Blue blazed access trail.
2.8 1702 ft Reach Cortland 9 Road, turn left (straight) and follow dirt road.
3.5 1751 ft Finger Lakes/North Country Trail crossing. Stay straight on dirt road.
3.6 1779 ft Reach end of dirt road at turnaround and your vehicle.
