This is a short, simple two mile loop hike located in Finger Lakes National Forest that features the Southslope Trail, Interloken Trail and the North Country National Scenic Trail. This hike features an open area, a small pond and a beautiful young forest. There is an overall elevation gain/loss of this loop hike of just over 200 feet. This easy loop hike can be enjoyed by most in your family.

The trailhead parking area is located along seasonal dirt Burnt Hill Road. It is the parking area for the Finger Lakes Trail/North Country National Scenic Trail. The GPS coordinates are N42 26.595 W76 48.806. The road is NOT plowed in the winter and is used as a snowmobile trail. For best directions, plug in the GPS coordinates into Google Maps from your location.

Start your hike by walking north from the trailhead to the crossing of the North Country Trail/Finger Lakes Trail. Turn right and slightly climb following the white blazed trail. This is a newer section of the NCT/FLT. At 0.15 miles reach the junction of the orange blazed Interloken Trail. Turn left and follow the orange blazes of the Interloken Trail. At 0.8 miles reach the junction of the Southslope Trail on your left. Turn left onto the Southslope Trail.

Just prior to reaching Burnt Hill Road at 0.95 miles, the trail passes a pretty little pond. You might even hear some frogs singing as you travel by, I bet you'll see a few dragon flies. Cross the dirt road and pass through the small parking area and continue along the Southslope Trail. You'll pass through an open area with lots of wildflowers especially goldenrod, as well as crossing a small stream as you make your way toward the North Country National Scenic Trail/Finger Lakes Trail.

At 1.5 miles reach the junction of the white blazed NCT/FLT and turn left. There is a small stream crossing near the junction of the trail. At 1.8 miles cross another small stream and start to climb as you make your way toward Burnt Hill Road, reaching the small gate near the road at 2.0 miles. Simply turn right along the road and walk the last fifty feet to the parking area and your vehicle.
