The 1400 acre Lake Lila is a popular destination in the William Whitney Wilderness for both kayakers and backpackers, with the beautiful scenic lake and the 24 designated campsites along the shore of the lake. The main parking area is located at the end of Lake Lila Road. Visitors will need to travel 5.6 miles on this seasonal dirt road to reach the parking area. It is a short 0.3 mile walk via a canoe carry trail for those who want to get a glimpse of the lake.

To reach the parking area take Sabattis Road off of NY 30, north of Long Lake, NY. Pass the NY DEC Little Tupper Lake Headquarters and drive another 3.2 miles to the gated seasonal dirt road. There is a DEC sign marking the start of the road. Turn left and follow the dirt road for 5.6 miles to the large parking area. The road seems like it's good for most vehicles, but you will have decide with your own car. The GPS coordinates of the Lila Lake Road intersection with Sabattis Road is N44 03.784 W74 38.673 and the GPS coordinates of the parking area is N44 01.115 W74 43.795. Don't block the gate at the parking area, as the road is used as access for land owners.

From the parking area there are two trails that leave the lot. The short 0.3 mile canoe carry trail takes you to a sandy beach on Lake Lila and access to campsite #1 on the lake. The other trail is a continuation of Lake Lila Road and takes you to the west side of the lake, with access of numerous campsites as well as the Lake Lila Lean To. The trail to Frederica Mountain is accessed 3.3 miles from the parking area. It is 1.2 miles to the summit with an overall elevation gain of 400 feet. The views are spectacular from the summit.

The campsites and lean to are available free of charge on a first come basis. There are no reservations. Check with the NY DEC for regulations regarding camping in this area. Bikes are not allowed pass the gate on the dirt road that leaves the parking area. Look below for some pictures and maps of the Lake Lila area.
