|
Located between Horseshoe Lake Wild Forest and William C. Whitney Wilderness in the town of Long Lake in Hamilton County is Round Lake Wilderness. Round Lake Wilderness was created in 2005 and covers approximately 11,000 acres. In 2007 there were eleven designated campsites created on the lake, most are accessible by boat.
Although this area is designated as a wilderness, Round Lake is easily accessible for kayakers and canoes from Sabattis Road near the junction of Circle Road. The lake is about two miles long and with the designated campsites on the shore, make Round Lake a great kayaking/camping weekend getaway. There are also a few hiking trails that you can explore.
Directions to Round Lake Wilderness: From the village of Tupper Lake continue south for about 11.5 miles on NY 30 to Sabattis Road. Turn right on Sabattis Road. The main boating parking area is near the intersection of Circle Road. Trailhead for the West Shore Trail is off Sabattis Road, about one mile west from Little Tupper Headquarters and the East Shore Trail is on Circle Road, about 0.6 miles from Sabattis Road.
